Bafut Breathes Again as 'general' Alhadji, peace plant die

Denizens of the village of Bafut, one of the five first class Fondoms in North West Cameroon are gradually getting back to life. This comes after the Defense and security forces of the Republic of Cameroon killed separatist fighters reigning terror in the subdivision

'general' Alahji who had erected his camp at a four star hotel in Bafut, Saddle Hill Ranch, is notorious for kidnapping students, politicians and business magnets from Bamenda, capital of Cameroon's North West Region

"Hopefully I will be able to make it to Bafut and see my grand parents. I have not gone pass mile seven in Mankon for more than two years now" a Bafut Lady known as Manka recounted to the Observer

"general" Alahji kidnapped students of the Presbyterian Secondary School in Nkwen twice. With the second kidnap in 2018 having more than 80 students who were picked up from their dormitories, forcing the Administration of the Region to ban movements from one subdivision to another

He is also notorious of seizing landed property from the villagers as terror continued to reign in the subdivision

Troops of Cameroon's defense forces attacked the camps hosting separatists fighters on two fronts, one from Mankon and the other from Momo Division

Friday, May 1, The commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Nka Valere and the Commander of the 5th Gendamerie Region, Brigadier General Ekongwese Divine saluted the 300 soldiers who undertook the mission

"I bring to them congratulations from the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of defense. Bafut you know is an Amba stronghold but we will clean it and let the people live their normal lives" Nka Valere told the Press

Colonel Matiang Charles Alain, commander of the troops on mission reassured the people of Bafut that the military is there to protect them

"This is just the beginning. We shall have many more operations and I call on them to cooperate"

The visit of the Generals also took them to the palace of Bafut where rumors had it that it was deserted by soldiers. Nothing as such happened, noted General Nka Valere



The raid in Bafut is one of several raids organised by defense and security forces to subdue Amba strongholds in the North West Region. Batibo, Bali, Bangolan, Ndop, Kumbo have seen separatist fighters fall to the Cameroon army since Generals Nka Valere and Ekongwese Divine took over the 5th command headquarters in Bamenda in December of 2019
